Note: The “Hancock Rebels, Co. C, 38th MS Infantry (Mounted), is Picayune’s only known Confederate unit. The "Gainesville Volunteers," Co. G, 3rd MS Infantry, were raised in the nearby (and now extinct) Gainesville, former county seat of Hancock County.
